HISTORY:
Conquer the Forbidden Mountain on a fast track train ride. Be whipped and
rattled and shook around and though this high altitude adventure. Enjoy
it, but beware of the beast (Yeti) that calls this place his home!
This ride has a drop of 24 metres and covers a land area of 2.6 hectares.
The mountain is made up of over 1,800 tons of steel.
The mammoth sized Yeti and Guardian of the Mountain is one of Disney's
impressive Audio-Animatronics. It has a potential thrust of over 259,000
pounds with all of its hydraulic cylinders combined. That is more power
in an instant that a 747-400 airliner.
The enormous mountain range has a forced perspective due to the painted mural
of shadows across the face of the mountains. The range of glaciers and valleys
is a canvas of rock-work. They trick the eye into perceiving closer and far
off objects have more size and depth than they actually do.
The Himalayan site has more than 900 nbamboo plants, 110 species of shrubs and
10 species of trees. That is one large planting around the 1800 tons of steel
which was used to create the mountain structure. It was covered by 2000
gallons of stain and paint! The whole site was covered in around 2000
handcrafted items from Asia.
LOCATION:
In Asia which is in the northeast part of Disney Animal Kingdom. You cannot
miss the large mountain dominating the area.
ATTRACTION EXPERIENCE:
Be prepared for high speeds and hairpin turns as well as sudden drops!
As you enter the small village at the base of the mountain, you will notices
things are not completely right ... Perhaps it is the tour operator or
the supply shop. The queue passes through buildings and themed locations
settle the scene for the adventure ahead. The main spot of interest is
the museum area held in an old warehouse. There you will find a range of
artifacts and sets and information about the Nepalese culture, history
and folklore. Soon you will board your steam tea train and head off up into
the mountains and into the fog and mist. This ride goes backwards as well as
forward so be aware of that. The seats are individual, so no seat sharing.
Even the lap bar is for one seat only, though the seats are in pairs. The
ride itself is about a mile long, so be ready for a nice long ride!
